Shadow Puppet Basics
Do I need to create an account?
No, you can use Shadow Puppet without creating an account, but in order to share them we ask that you sign up with your email address or using Facebook. This lets us send you notifications when people view your puppets and sync your puppets between devices.
Can I use Shadow Puppet when I'm not connected to the internet?
Yes. You can record puppets when offline, but you'll need to have an internet connection to share them.
What happens when I share a puppet?
When you share a puppet, we create a web page that can be used to play the puppet back. This means you can send people puppets and they don't have to download the app to watch them. Unless you share this page, no one can see what you've made -- only the people you share your puppets with can access your content.
Can I embed puppets in other web pages?
Yes, first get the link to your puppet. Paste the link to your puppet on your web browser. On the puppet web page there is a link icon. Tap the link icon and copy the HTML embed code.
Can I save a puppet to my camera roll?
Yes, when you finish a puppet there's a copy of it automatically saved as a video on your camera roll. You can upload this video to YouTube, Vimeo or Instagram.
To save old puppets to your camera roll, choose the puppet you want to save. Tap the menu button on the top right. Tap Save to camera roll.
If you don't want puppets automatically saved as video to your camera roll, you can turn this feature OFF in the settings.
How do I reorder images in a puppet?
When adding images, tap on reorder to rearrange or remove the photos you've selected.
Can I select photos from different albums?
Yes, tap on the "Add Photos" header at the top of the photo selection screen to see a list of your photo albums.
After adding a photo, it looks cropped. Can I change this?
Yes. After adding all the photos you want to use to your puppet, before you tap on the microphone you can configure the initial position and zoom of the photo. Get it looking just the way you want and then tap the microphone to start recording.
How can I customize the transitions between pictures?
You can either swipe or press the next and previous arrows to transition between photos. If you'd like to customize the transition, press and hold the next button for a list of options.
Do puppets have a time limit?
No, you can make puppets of any length. We've found from experience however that the best puppets change the photograph every 10 to 15 seconds. The next arrow will start to blink if you've been on the same image for 15 seconds so you can pace yourself.
